报告摘要:

Gravitational lenses are Natures largest telescopes. The powerful magnification of gravitational lensing allows us to obtain spatially resolved properties for high redshift galaxies that are otherwise unavailable until the next generation of thirty metre telescopes. Combining the power of strong gravitational lensing and the adaptive optics techniques on 8-10 metre optical/near-infrared telescopes, we are able to trace the oxygen distribution within distant galaxies and probe the origin of the most ancient spiral galaxies. In this talk, I will discuss about some of the most recent results at the frontiers of extragalactic astronomy based on applications of strong gravitational lensing.

报告人简介:

Tiantian obtained her bachelors degree in astronomy from Beijing Normal University in 2006. She then went to the University of Hawaii andreceived her Masters and PhD degrees there. She moved to Australia in 2012 and worked at the Australian National University as a postdoctoral fellow. From 2017 till now, she is an ASTRO 3D Fellow (a prestigious prize fellowship in Australia) at the Swinburne University of Technology. Her research interest includes chemical evolution of galaxies using gravitational lensing, and recently the origin of spiral arms and galactic rings. She is an expert in using 8-10meter telescopes and has been the Principal Investigator on many observational programs, including 23 nights on Keck and Subaru, and recently a 250hr large program on MUSE/VLT at European Southern Observatory (ESO).
