On February 21, 2022, at 19:00, an introductory meeting of Joint Training Program between the School of Physics of Chongqing University and the Department of Physics of National University of Singapore (NUS) was held online to introduce the details of the program and answer questions for the students. The meeting was attended by Jiangbin Gong, Head of NUS Physics Department, Chun Zhang, Professor of NUS Physics Department, Xinggang Wu, Dean of NUS Physics Department, Tao Yu, Deputy Secretary, Zixiang Hu, Vice Dean of NUS Physics Department and interested students of NUS Physics Department.
Professor Jiangbin Gong introduced the students to the long history of the Physics Department at NUS, which has a history of over 90 years and is ranked 15th in Physics and Astronomy by QS World University in 2021. Among the many state-of-the-art laboratories within the department, the Centre for Quantum Science and Technology Research, which originated from the NUS Physics Department, was the first research center of excellence funded by the Singapore government. Over the years, the Department of Physics at NUS has played an important role in driving Singapore into the high-tech era by working closely with industry, overseas universities and government agencies in interdisciplinary research and teaching.
The program is specifically divided into the MSc in physics and the MSc in Physics for technology. The Master of Science in Physics program is designed for students with a strong interest in fundamental physics and provides them with advanced knowledge and core skills. The program focuses on both theory and practice in areas such as quantum physics, statistical mechanics, advanced dynamics, cold atomic physics, and theoretical and computational condensed matter physics. The Master of Science in Physics for Technology is designed to provide high-tech R&D professionals and recent graduates with the latest innovative technologies and skills to solve high-tech challenges in a practice-oriented manner through knowledge of physics, photonics, electronics, materials science and computational physics.
After Prof. Gong Jiangbin's presentation, the students entered the Q&A session, where they asked questions about the advantages of the program, tuition fees, specific requirements of the program, local epidemic, etc. Prof. Gong Jiangbin and Prof. Zhang Chun gave detailed and patient answers.
Through this introduction meeting, the students got to know the situation of our international exchange program in time and had a clearer understanding of the research direction they are interested in. At the same time, this meeting promoted the smooth cooperation between the School of Physics and NUIST, and we hope that this presentation will help students broaden their horizons, step forward and work towards a higher and more ambitious goal.
