Unraveling the mystery of the 750 GeV di-photon excess

Recently, the ATLAS and CMS collaborations presented the first 13 TeV Run-2 results showing an excess in the di-photon final state at an invariant mass around 750 GeV. This observation might indicate another breakthrough achieved at the LHC and, if it turns out to be real, may have deep implications for new physics. Having established the general effective field theory description, we discuss two interpretations for the di-photon excess in the context of the supersymmetry and extra dimensional models. In addition, an alternative topology involving the presence of collimated photon-jets will be illustrated to explain the excess.

报告人简介:

Dr. Yun Jiang is currently the postdoctoral fellow at theNiels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagenand also a member of Discovery Center. Prior to joining the NBIA, he obtained his Ph.D. degree at U.C. Davis in 2015. His past education qualification includes the B.S. degree at Zhejiang University and the M.Sc. degree at National University of Singapore.

His research work lies in the fields of particle physics and cosmology. The focus of his current research includes the standard model (SM) effective field theory, new physics beyond the SM and the topical issues (i.e., dark matter, inflation) related to the early Universe. So far he has 20+ publications with a total of nearly 800 citations, including one especially influential and valuable article on Higgs boson physics published on thePhysical Review Letters.

He was selected as the only receipt of theOutstanding Academic Achievement Award, the highest honor in each class of graduating graduates in the University of California.He was also the winners of the 2014 National Award for Outstanding Chinese Students Studying Abroad and the 2013 LHC Theory Initiative Graduate Fellowship, a prestigious fellowship supported by the U.S. NSF in the area of high energy physics.
